DisplayWakeFix

A lightweight Windows tray utility that automates a workaround for a multi-monitor wake problem and restores windows to their saved monitors and positions.

Overview

DisplayWakeFix saves the window layout before displays turn off, triggers a graphics-driver reset when the system wakes, and restores windows to their saved monitors and positions. It automates a workaround; it does not repair the underlying driver issue.

Problem

Some Windows 11 multi-monitor setups can wake with windows shuffled onto the wrong displays. Standard driver and power-management fixes did not reliably eliminate the recurring annoyance.

What I built

The app runs quietly in the system tray, saves window positions before displays turn off, automates the graphics-driver reset on wake, and restores the saved layout afterward.

Stack

.NET 8WindowsSystem tray

Services

Windows utility, Desktop automation, Multi-monitor workflow

Outcome / status

A practical MIT-licensed workaround for a specific wake-time workflow problem. It is primarily described for Windows 11 and should also work on Windows 10; it is not a permanent driver fix.

Notes

DisplayWakeFix is a small Windows tray application built to work around a frustrating multi-monitor wake issue. When displays turn off, it saves the current window layout. When the system wakes, it automates the graphics-driver reset and restores each window to its saved monitor and position. It does not patch the underlying driver issue; it automates the workaround and cleans up the resulting window shuffle.
